GameSense Privacy Policy
GameSense is an iPhone and Apple Watch app for tracking your soccer matches. This policy explains what data the app uses, where that data is kept, who it is shared with, and what we will and won't do with it. It covers all GameSense features, including optional accounts, cloud sync, server-side processing, diagnostics, and product analytics.
In short
- Your match and health data is stored on your iPhone and Apple Watch. If you create an account or turn on cloud features, it is also stored on our servers so we can back it up, sync it, and calculate statistics and insights.
- We collect crash reports, error logs, and usage analytics to keep the app working and improve it. Where possible, we use aggregated or de-identified data.
- We will never sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for advertising.
- Health data is sent to our servers only with your explicit permission, which you give in the app and can withdraw at any time.
Data the app uses
Health data (Apple Health / HealthKit). If you allow it, GameSense reads the following from Apple Health:
- heart rate and resting heart rate
- workouts
- walking and running distance
- active energy (calories)
- workout routes, which include location data recorded during a workout
The app uses this data to show your matches, work out match intensity and recovery, and track your progress. GameSense can also save your match workouts to Apple Health. You choose which data types to allow, and you can change that at any time in the Health app or in iPhone Settings.
Match data you create. This includes match names, scores, start and end times, your positions on the pitch, and time spent on the bench.
Account data. If you create an account, we store the details you use to sign in, such as your email address or an identifier from Sign in with Apple, and a user ID linked to your data.
Diagnostics. We collect crash reports, error logs, and performance data. These include your device model, OS version, app version, and technical details about the problem. We don't intentionally put health data in diagnostics.
Usage data. We collect information about how the app is used, such as which screens are opened and which features are used. This data is linked to a random app ID, or to your account if you have one, and is not linked to your health data.
Purchase data. If you subscribe to GameSense Unlimited, Apple handles the payment. We never see your payment details. See “Service providers” below.
Notifications. The app can send notifications, for example when a match's intensity has been recalculated. Some are created on your device, and some may be sent from our servers, for example when server-side processing finishes.
How we use your data
- To provide the app: show your matches, calculate intensity, recovery, statistics, and insights, and sync your data between your devices.
- To back up and restore your data if you have an account.
- To keep the app working: find and fix crashes, bugs, and performance problems.
- To improve GameSense: understand which features are used and develop new ones. Where possible, we use aggregated or de-identified data for this.
- To manage your subscription and give you access to paid features.
Legal bases
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Contract: to provide the app, your account, sync, and your subscription.
- Explicit consent: to process health data, including sending it to our servers. You give this consent in the app, and you can withdraw it at any time. Withdrawing doesn't affect processing that happened before.
- Legitimate interests: to collect diagnostics and product analytics so we can keep the app secure and working and improve it. You can object to this at any time.
- Legal obligation: where the law requires us to keep or disclose information.
Where your data is stored
Match data is stored in the app on your iPhone and Apple Watch, and the two devices sync directly with each other. Health data is stored in Apple Health, under Apple's protections.
If you create an account or turn on cloud features, your match data, and any health data you have agreed to share, is also stored on servers run by us or by our hosting providers. We encrypt data in transit and at rest. Diagnostics and usage data are stored by us and our service providers.
Our servers and service providers may be in countries other than yours, including the United States. When we transfer personal data out of the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, we use appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Data stored on your devices can be included in your own device backups, under your Apple account settings. GameSense doesn't store your Apple Health data in iCloud.
Service providers
We use service providers to run the app. They process data only on our behalf, only to provide their service, and under contracts that require them to protect it:
- Apple handles App Store purchases, subscriptions, Sign in with Apple, and Apple Health.
- RevenueCat manages subscription status. It receives a random anonymous ID created by the app, your purchase and subscription history, and basic device information, such as app version, OS version, and country or region. RevenueCat doesn't receive your health data or match data. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
- Cloud hosting and database providers store and process account, match, and health data for accounts, sync, backup, and server-side processing.
- Crash reporting and diagnostics providers receive crash reports and error logs.
- Product analytics providers receive usage data. They don't receive health data.
Contact us if you'd like the current list of providers by name.
What we will never do
- Sell your data.
- Share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing, or use it to show you ads.
- Use data from Apple Health for advertising, marketing, or data mining, or give it to data brokers.
- Use health data for anything other than providing and improving GameSense.
- Store your Apple Health data in iCloud.
We will disclose information only if the law requires it, for example in response to a valid court order. We will share no more than is required.
How long we keep data
- Account, match, and health data on our servers: while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete this data within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep it.
- Diagnostics: up to 90 days.
- Usage data: up to 2 years, or longer only in aggregated or de-identified form.
- Data on your device: until you delete it or delete the app.
Your choices and rights
- Health access: turn individual data types on or off in Health → Sharing → Apps → GameSense.
- Health data on our servers: withdraw your consent in the app settings at any time. We will then stop sending health data to our servers and delete what we hold.
- Delete your account: delete your account in the app settings. This deletes your account and all the data linked to it from our servers.
- Delete data on your device: delete matches in the app, or delete the app to remove all of its data from your device. Workouts the app saved to Apple Health can be deleted in the Health app.
- Analytics: turn off usage analytics in the app settings.
- Notifications: manage them in iPhone Settings → Notifications → GameSense.
- Subscriptions: manage or cancel them in iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, to object to or restrict how it is processed, and to withdraw consent. Contact us to use any of these rights. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
GameSense is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the effective date above. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app and ask for your consent where required.
